Out on the wily, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green
You had a temper, like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you too
Bad dreams in the night
They told me I was going to lose the fight
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Oh it gets dark, it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot, I find a lot
Falls through without you
I'm coming back love, cruel Heathcliff
My one dream, my only master

Too long I've roamed the night
I'm coming back to his side to put it right
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in a your window

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away
Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away
You know it's me, Cathy

I also love the Africa song by Toto. (here) (http://www.last.fm/music/Toto/_/Africa)

Clay by Echo and the Bunnymen.

Am I the half of half-and-half
Or am I the half that's whole?
I've got to be one with all my halves
It's my worthy earthly goal
It's my worthy earthly goal
It's my worthy earthly goal

Are you the heavy half
Of the lighter me
Are you the ready part
Of the lighter me

When I came apart
I wasn't made of sand
When you fell apart
Clay crumbled in my hands
Long way a life load
Statues and haloes

Am I the half of half-and-half
Or am I the half that's whole
Am I the half that's whole
Am I the half that's whole

Are you the wrongful half
Of the rightful me
Are you the mongol half
Of the cerebral me

When I came apart
I wasn't made of sand
When you fell apart
Clay crumbled in my hands
When I came apart
I wasn't made of sand
When you fell apart
Clay crumbled in my hands

If we exercise just some control
When we exercise our sum control

Oh isn't it nice
When your heart is made out of ice
Oh isn't it nice
When your heart is made out of ice

Are you the heavy half
Of the lighter me
Are you the ready part
of the hesitant me

Am I the "shall" in po-ten-tial
Or am I the "suck" in "cess"
Pools of delusion
Deluge me
Am I the more or less
Am I the more or less
Am I the more or less

When I came apart
I wasn't made of sand
When you fell apart
Clay crumbled in my hands
When I came apart
I wasn't made of sand

When I was the Cain
You were the Abel
When I came apart
Clay crumbled in my hands

"Rosanna" by Toto was my favorite, but there were a lot of others too. I was a big Bonnie Raitt and Dire Straits fan back then.

That was soooooo long ago! I hate to think of how long ago it was. Makes me want to cry.

LOVE Kate Bush still. My fave (of hers) is Big Sky. :001_smile:

All time favorite 80s tune? Oh. man. That's a tough one...I'll chew on it over dinner. ;)

My Kate Bush fav is This Woman's Work (just squeezes in as a release in 1989). I have all but her last cd and it's on my wish list. :001_smile:

Pray God you can cope.
I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man,
Now his part is over.
Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things I should've said,
That I never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things I should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,
Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.
Give them back to me.
Give me that little kiss.
Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That were never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things that you needed from me.
All the things that you wanted for me.
All the things that I should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.
Just make it go away now.

You Shook Me (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bomv-6CJSfM) by ACDC
Pour Some Sugar On Me (http://youtube.com/watch?v=iVxiHC9AJQw) by Def Leppard

Oh, there are more, but these two ROCK!

Whitesnake's In the Still of the Night (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lqb5EcU65IQ) has an awesome instrumental solo in the middle of it. What is that? A bass? A cello? I don't know my instruments very well. I love Here I Go Again (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oKTiwCez6Zs), too.

What the heck, I can't stop there.
Sweet Child O' Mine (http://youtube.com/watch?v=P-AYAv0IoWI)
Living On a Prayer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nE11Zrrp24I)
Bad Medicine (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gYc64BDCWhg)
Hmmm, I could go on with the Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, ACDC, and Def Leppard. I could name a few more of Guns 'n' Roses. I really liked me some INXS, too. Then there are all those songs I'm a bit ashamed to say I liked and knew all the words to. Uh, Heart and Soul comes to mind:D As does this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GA0k6cLBDx4) one. And this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jSnLdYBdeHg&feature=related) one. Oh and this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=E0coJxNgASs). Or how about this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1yLVufAfby0&feature=related)? Though I'm mostly ashamed of those because of the boyfriend who introduced me to them. Real shame? That comes from the fact that I owned a Men Without Hats CD and dug this song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jf65IlHgVnw) (among others). Oh, and also that I thought this song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nPs7-5feq-M) was very profound. Da doo yeah.

There's no way! I couldn't even narrow it to one album. Here are some faves:

Albums
Squeeze: Singles 45's and Under
Marshall Crenshaw: Marshall Crenshaw
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Vol 2

Songs
Smiths: How Soon Is Now
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions: Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken
Sting: Love Is the Seventh Wave
Howard Jones: No One Is to Blame / Things Can Only Get Better

And finally, I will admit that I cannot help but dance when I hear The Bangles' Walk Like an Egyptian or anything by Wham. I'm so ashamed.

I'm all over 80s music ~ although I admit I go in for a lot of 70s music, too. But something there is about that 80s era. And no, it's not just because I spent every afternoon laying out on a dock getting tan and listening to those tunes. It's more than nostalgia, really! I mean, A-ha ~ that iconic Norwegian 80s group ~ was the inspiration behind Coldplay, one of the top bands in the world today.

GOSH, what's my favorite 80s song? Too many, too many. I can still do entire drill team routines to some of this music..."Hey, Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind..." Okay, that's not really one of my favs. But it does bring back memories.

I was way into, well, all the music...My two best friends (currently featured on my blog) and I wasted who knows how many hours watching videos on VH-1. (The first music I watched, btw, was Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy", and I couldn't figure out what exactly it was. The concept of showing a "video" while playing a song was totally new. LOL) I had Duran Duran posters up in my room. I loved Journey and Toto. But by far, my bestest was U2. I have friends now ~ adults ~ who have just discovered U2 in the past decade or so. They don't identify at all with the U2 of the 80s. I, on the other hand, spent a month when I was 15 living with just a girlfriend and this guy friend of ours (Mom? Dad? hello-o-o? what were you thinking?!?!) ~ this guy was half-Irish and we listened non-stop to U2. Good stuff, that.

But after all is said and done...

Don't you Forget about me by Simple Minds
Sweet Child of Mine by Gun's and Roses (I loved so many of their songs...I had a crush on Axel Rose???? Yikes!)

Out on the wily, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green
You had a temper, like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you too
Bad dreams in the night
They told me I was going to lose the fight
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Oh it gets dark, it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot, I find a lot
Falls through without you
I'm coming back love, cruel Heathcliff
My one dream, my only master

Too long I've roamed the night
I'm coming back to his side to put it right
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home
I'm so cold, let me in in a your window

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away
Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away
You know it's me, Cathy

A great 80s celluloid moment:

We have one of those *ion turntables to convert the LPs into MP3s, but It's slow going. We have done a few, and need to do more! Even when I finish, I'm not sure I can part with those well loved LPs from the 70's and 80's.

I think my fav eighties tune is actually from the 70's(?) Wondering Where the Lions Are Bruce Cockburn

Actually from the eighties: Elvis Costello - Tokyo Storm Warning (really that whole album - Blood & Chocolate).

The sky fell over cheap Korean monster-movie scenery
And spilled into the mezzanine of the crushed capsule hotel
Between the Disney abattoir and the chemical refinery
And I knew I was in trouble but I thought I was in hell

Roomies and I wore out Talking Heads Little Creatures one summer (so happy...)

Love Kate Bush - did you catch when CSI used 2 of her tunes early last season? (One was a cover, but still...) The Dreaming was just fascinating.

I just thought of another one... I'll Melt with You by Modern English. Did someone say Tainted Love by I don't remember.

Jenny, I'm coming over to play with your music collection soon. Did you ever see the band Donkey in Atlanta in the early 90's?

I'm more of a 70's music fan, but during the '80s I loved all the songs by 2nd Chapter of Acts. They were the BEST!

OMG! It looks like Olivia Newton John just did something totally inappropriate to the guy doing the splits on the tightrope. (At about 2:10.) I don't know though, I've never seen Xanadu. Perhaps it's appropriate there? I'm sorry. I should go do some laundry now. Maybe I'll wash my dirty mind out while I'm at it.

Looks like she's copping a feel doesn't it?:D

...how 'bout Little Feat? Remember the "Let It Roll" album? Late 80s? Hate to Lose Your Lovin', Cajun Girl.... SO good! That was another one that we completely wore out in college.

Also wonderful were Bruce Hornsby and the Range on "The Way It Is" and "Scenes from the Southside."

And finally, let it never be said that the South has not produced its share of great musician-poets: Case in point, the Georgia Satellites (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my4lhkxLRjg)! ;)

Layla McB (who, in her freshman year, danced through the condemned gymnasium at William & Mary for a Bruce Hornsby video before it--the gym, that is--was converted into the business school. Good times.)

Oh ya, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, Almond Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. Dh and I love them!

8th Grade was all about Molly Hatchet, Rush, and REO Speedwagon (so not me). I was a transplanted NYer, who had just falling in love with Gene Vincent (rockabilly) and Punk from the UK. I tried to fit in, hanging out with boys who drove Trans Ams or Camaros. It did not work to well.

I missed them somehow. Local bands I saw were, REM, Swimming Pool Q's, Blue TV, B52's, Ru Paul (Wee Wee Pole), Arms Akimbo, The Nightporters (Driven N Crying), 86, & Pylon. I'm sure there were more but I don't remember them well. Getting old :tongue_smilie:

Atl (Dunwoody), but we used to drive out to Athens all the time! 40 Watt. Main hangouts were 688, Metroplex, and this house off West Peachtree. Can't remember the name, but we saw Baby and the Pacifers. Wow, so long ago.

Broken Wings, by Mister Mister! I loved it the first time I heard it, and think it may still be my fave song ever, unless Rob Thomas has pushed it out with If You're Gone, which I adore as well.

for the most part, I intensely disliked 80s music. Could. not. stand. that stupid song about the red balloons that they played over & over & over & over! It was the absolute worst, followed closely by Brass in Pocket, Tainted Love, and anything by Culture Club or the Eurythmics.

Hmmm... 80s music that I actually liked... okay... anything by Air Supply and most songs by Phil Collins or Foreigner.

Anything by Billy Joel - I know he began in the 70s, but his greatest hits came out in the 80s and I fell in love.

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean I know he is a freak now, but I can't believe no one else liked him in the 80s.
Prince - When Doves Cry
Metallica - One

1. Head Over Heels - The Go-Go's
2. Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield
3. Burning Down The House - The Talking Heads
4. Mad About You - Belinda Carlisle
5. I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston
6. What I Like About You - Lillix
7. Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice
8. Crazy For You - Madonna
9. Vienna - Billy Joel
10. Why Can't I? - Liz Phair
11. Tainted Love - Soft Cell
12. Love Is A Battlefield - Pat Benatar
13. Will I Ever Make It Home - Ingram Hill

I forgot about Whitney Houston! Gosh, I thought she was so pretty.

nah, no way could I pick a single song. Topping my list would be:

Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer
Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi (actually, ANYTHING Bon Jovi in the 80's - he was my FAVORITE!!)

but I LOVED hair bands (Whitesnake, Great White, Poison, Motley Crue, Scorpions - the list goes on and on)

I also liked all the pop-y dance stuff too. Gosh I miss the 80's!!

If you MADE me pick, I might have to pick Video Killed the Radio Star, by the Buggles.

You can't make me pick, though :P

Other contenders:

Hysteria - Def Leppard
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper (but co-written by a guy in another band I love)
was Closer to Fine by the Indigo Girls 80s or 90s?
Burning in Love or What Does it Take? by Honeymoon Suite
Stone in Love - Journey
INXS - Mystify
then there's Duran Duran, and the Hooters, and ....oh, forget it. See? You can't make me.

Are you kidding? This came on the radio the other day, and my dh and I turned it up and did the air guitar. Pretty much the best guitar riff, EVER. Of course it's cool!

And remember that Pink Floyd came back with A Momentary Lapse of Reason in the late 80s, I believe. We jammed to that in college. I distinctly remember the track "Learning to Fly" at parties...

There is a song on that album that I dearly love ... "One Slip."
