The Royal Diaries Series ??

What do you think about this series? Would they be to advanced to be read aloud to a 1st grader? Thank you.

I haven't read them, but my dd has. She says the material may be too strong for a first grader. Geared more towards middle school and up.

This is one series I tend to steer clear of because of it.
And I definitely do not think they are written for a first grader.
The Scholastic videos of them are a little more tame. Netflix has one or two. We just watched and enjoyed the Cleopatra, Isabella, and Elizabeth one.

and we watched many last school year. My DD6 chose them herself (not at my request), and she really liked them! She'd go back for more the next week, or ask me to look them up online. I thought the videos were tame.

The other series that she loved along this vein was the "Dear America" series. She was on ancients, but since she showed so much interest, I got them for her too. They are stories based on diary entries from girls in colonial / revolutionary times.

I have read/skimmed through some of my daughters and I agree, there is some content that is probably a bit much for a 1st grader. Most of the "royals" that are "writing" the diaries are from periods of time where there was a lot of political turmoil and/or war over the throne.

I think the America diaries series is a bit tamer and written for a younger audience.
