View Full Version : Is it difficult to homeschool in Ky or OH?
I looked up HSLDA and it didn't sound too bad, but was wondering what it is like in real life. I have a B.S. so the education requirement for Ohio isn't a problem.
I'm in Cincinnati (east side) and I will tell you there are a BUNCH of support groups and co-ops around here. The laws, right now, are fairly easy. I send a letter to the district in the summer; a very brief letter, and we get a certified teacher to write a note saying that she is performing at or above grade level and submit that somewhere (I havne't actually submitted one of those yet--first time this year). So far, it's very simple. *I* keep an attendance sheet and every month I file one page from each subject into a binder just in case. No one has ever said we have to.

I think homeschooling in Ohio is pretty easy. We just submit a letter to the superintendent in August for notification. Then at the end of the year we have a teacher review a portfolio of samples for each subject through the year, and we have him/her sign a paper saying that the student is meeting the requirements and working to the best of their ability. This we submit together with the notification to the superintendent.
You can also submit standardized test scores instead of a statement from a teacher, but most people I know do the portfolio assessment.
We belong to a great homeschool group in our area and enjoy Enrichment Day co-op classes through that! Not every area has that option though.
