My 15 yods has the pox really, really bad!! Much worse than any of his sisters had it. We are doing ibuprofen and benedryl, but he is achey and miserable!! He didn't care for the bath thing.
Any ideas?
TIA,
Cordelia

Will he tolerate any over the counter anti-itch creams? Calamine lotion? I'll pray he heals very soon. Sorry I'm not much help in remedies!

Don't know how you stand on this, but some doctors will give an anitviral prescription - I can't remember the name of it - but when my kids had the pox, one dr. would prescribe it, one wouldn't. It basically shortens the course and makes it less uncomfortable.
Wish I could remember the name - might be worth a call to your pedi, given how old your patient is. yuck! I had them when I was 14 - I envy my girls who had them at 2 and 6 mos.

I know you said the "bath" thing didn't work. Not sure what bath thing you tried. I took baths with baking soda. Also, made a sort of thick paste out of baking soda and put it on the pox. Messy, but this helped a LOT with the itching. So sorry!

We just had 5 dc with chicken pox. Here is what worked for us.
Calendula in anyform oil, ointment, gel, although the lotion worked the best for us (we needed nothing else after trying this)
lavender oil added to calamine lotion
lavender oil added to bath water
oatmeal in a old stocking, soak and squeeze into water (although ds could not stand the bath)
burdock root tinture helps to hasten healing of pox
aloe vera helps heal skin after scabs fall off
All of these can be found at whole foods or a natural foods store.
Hope he feels better soon.

My dh got them at 32 and I never saw or dealt with anything like it ever.
He should have been hospitalized and was not given the antiviral due to an HMO screw-up. Baking soda packs helped to some extent but it was impossible to keep him comfortable long. I feel so bad for your poor kiddo.
