A friend of mind has asked me to find this for her and I figured I'd ask the experts!

She wants questions for each time period for middle - high school aged students. She doesn't want to buy a program b/c she's a major tweaker, she won't use the program other than what she wants from it so the money would be wasted if she bought something expensive.

I've suggested TruthQuest, not enough questions for her but it is still a consideration.
I found "Historical Essay Questions" at HomeschoolEStore.com for $3.50 and she loves this but wants more.
TRISMS has been eliminated, Tapestry has been eliminated although I think Evaluations from TOG might be helpful...I need someone to respond that has more experience with Evaluations.

She just wants questions to use for essays and discussions.
Thank you!

They're called "Think-Write" questions. Of course, it might be too expensive to buy it just for that part of it, but maybe your friend could find a copy to browse through.

What about using the chapter tests for SoTW? The questions could be tweaked for essay writing.

For upper levels? The Trism questions were too simple, I would think the SOTW questions would be the same. Thank you though! Her kids used Streams for grammar stage and read SOTW as assigned reading she doesn't follow anyone's idea of hsling other than her own. Lol.

I would suggest that she look at the Critical Thinking in US history books and maybe any others CT Press might have on history topics. I thought there were a lot of good ideas in there that could have been turned into essays, rather than just using them for discussion purposes.

They tie in to SOTW chapters, but the level is higher. Some of them may tie in too closely to the materials we are using, but some are more general.
