My 4 yo ds and I spent the day in the ER. He woke with a fever and cough and chest pain. The chest x-ray was hazy. They gave him IV meds, oral meds, fluids, and a breathing treatment and sent me home with him to monitor him. He goes back in the morning for more IV meds and a recheck. If he gets worse before then, they said to bring him right back in. They said to stop the chemo while he is sick, but his counts looked pretty good.
I am glad to be home I guess. I mean, I like the fact that they trust my judgement and know I can care for him. It just takes a lot of energy and diligence to continually assess how he is. The nebs around the clock get tiring, and by 2AM, I start questioning my judgement. I sent the baby I have been caring for with her mom for a visit for a few days. That way if we have to run out in the middle of the night, I only have my 3. They are used to getting up and running to the hospital, but it's harder with an infant.
Pray that he starts getting better soon!
