Which would you recommend and why? Or would you choose something else altogether? Thanks. :001_smile:
Reading Detective is more centered on comprehension skills, CLE includes comprehension skills but also does some literary terminology and analysis. Reading Detective goes further with comprehension than CLE, at least at the levels I looked at.
Both are good though!

I think my goal for him mostly at this point is reading comprehension. Thank you for comparing the two...I will look more into both of them, but it sounds like Reading Detective may be the one to look at most for right now.
Thanks. :001_smile:
Can anyone else comment on either or both of these?

I tried reading detective once a year or more ago - at that time it was still too hard for ds, but I didn't try it again. It just didn't look very appealing to *me* or to him. One thing we did go to was McCall Crabbs. They're great because there is only a paragraph to a page to read and then 10 or so multiple choice questions. The student has 3 minutes to read and answer (very quick and painless) - their score is translated to a grade level which you can record and average after doing 10 or so exercises. My ds loved the competitive feel of being timed and would have done it more than once/week if I had asked. I liked it because I could see his reading level increase through the year.
