The water from our front end loader goes into a greywater well. It has rained a lot the last few days, so I guess the water table is pretty high, according to dh. So the washer hasn't been draining and I think the water is actually backing up into the washer. I drained the water out a few days ago and when I opened it up yesterday, it was full of water again. So today, it just popped open and A TON of water spilled all over my laundry room and even into the furnace room next door!!! I can't get a hold of dh at work and I'm in a panic. I mopped up the water that was on the floor and closed the washer back up but this seems like a major problem. Dh said that when the ground dries up a bit, it won't be a problem but I'm thinking maybe this is more than what he thinks it is. Should I call a plumber? And about that water....it's not sewer water because it's not from the septic tank but is it ground water or what?? It's nasty, smells pretty bad. Someone help...I don't know what to do. I 've got 4 kids here and need some guidance!!! THanks!!

Don't you just hate it when this stuff happens and dh is unreachable? BTDT. Okay, for something like this...I would call a plumber ASAP or at least find a friendly male neighbor to help you out. If you've mopped up as best you can...oh, do you have a shop vac? You know, the kind that can suck up water? We have one of those that works well for water problems. We've had many...old copper pipes = big mess. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Good luck and keep us posted! :grouphug:

There is supposed to be a check valve that prevents this from happening...that should be looked into immediately...if dh is not handy about these things then call a plumber...but certainly it isn't supposed to be happening...

Sounds like you have a drain plugged somewhere - can you call the manufacturer and see if they can help you find where?
I know where mine is and that is the first place we go to now when there are draining issues (Only my machine stops).
I'm with Sue - grab a shop vac and get it out of there, but i don't think that water from teh outside should be able to come back INTO the machine. So if your gray water septic is full from the rain, it's just the wash water that hasn't had anywhere to go.....
It's not sounding fun either way - but i'd do the appliance repair guy or the plumber (both of whom DH would shoot me for calling - since he currently installs/pumps septic systems, i can see his point :D).
