I woke up in the middle of the night last night *REALLY* hot. I thought I was going to throw up and I went quickly to the bathroom feeling a bit faint and nauseous. When I got to the bathroom I laid down on the cool floor and then I started feeling better and went right to sleep. I never got sick and feel fine this morning. Please tell me I did *not* have a hotflash!!! I am turning 40 next month!http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0015.gif (http://www.allboxingstats.com/)
I've been having hot flashes since I was about 30-35yo. I'm 51, had a hyster at age 40 and STILL getting occasional hot flashes, although living up north has tremendously calmed down the frequency.
But no sickness with hot flashes unless you count my being sick of getting hot flashes:mad::mad::mad:.

I've had a few that made me feel that way.

That's how I felt at the voting place yesterday. It really took everything that I had to not just take off my shirt right there in front of God and everybody. If I didn't think that would have ruined my chance to vote, I probably would have. I am in my early forties and I have been having hot flashes for a few years now. :(

Not normally, no. The only time I have had hot flashes like that was two winters ago when I was so sick from my thyroid levels being in the toilet, and it was just one of the symptoms.
I have felt that way from time to time, but I always chalked it up to a virus, or food reactions.

Mine make me feel really anxious about 30 seconds before the heat starts. I read that there's an adrenaline rush just before it starts, which makes sense to me. I hate the feeling--I feel so uncomfortable in my own skin.

Yes, but not always. Sometimes I get the ill, queasy feeling several minutes before the heat. I will say that these occasions are rare, at least for now. I'm hoping they don't get worse as I get older- Blech!

My hot flashes dont often cause nausea~only if there is a headache to go along with the ordeal.
It always worries me when I hear about 'hot' flashes coupled with nausea. My dad woke up one night with horrible heartburn and nausea and feeling so hot he was sweating. Turned out he was having a heart attack and it was the last time he woke up. No history of heart problems prior to that. He was in his late forties.
Two nights ago I had a horrible bout of heartburn that kept me up all night worrying about whether it was my heart or my stomach or just plain hormone gone wacko.
Life just doesn't get easier, does it?

In my case it was not hormone related--it was insulin resistance.
I now have to stay away from sugar and other high glycemic index foods. If not I'll start to sweat (similar to hot flashes I've had before) and then become nauseous. If I eat some protein it usually subsides in a few minutes.
These episodes are more frequent in the middle of the night--especially if I had a lot of carbs at dinner.
There are a number of things this could be...keep a record of how often they happen and what foods you ate that day. You may see a pattern after a few months that will help decipher what is going on in your body.

Not that I can remember. I have been having them for about 6-7 years now and still have them even though I am post menopausal.

I don't notice anything about them until they are over and I wake up literally soaked in sweat. I don't feel bad, just freezing cold until I change my shirt. Ugh, it's murder getting older. I'm 46 and have had these for a few years now.

My hot flashes started out very mild (for about two years) and I wondered what everyone complained and joked about. Then they began to get more intense. Lately I have been having many more, and stronger, hot flashes, even awakening 5 or 6 times a night, just prior to each one. They often cause nausea, but only once vomiting. I vomited once, and then felt fine.

Mindy, could you ask your mom what kids of symptoms she had and when they started? I am finding my female cycle is very much like my mom's and that has helped me handle changes much better. If you're not much like your mom, check on your father's side. You'd be surprised at how much your genes plays into it.

Dear Mindy,
Not here, and not among the group of us who experience them in church...the only problem is that we all are seized with a big desire to strip na*ked, and that wouldn't do, would it?
I was surprised to see that this is the case for other women...and I recommend asking your mom about her experience. I should have done this years ago...
Kind regards,
Patty
