Hi All. I haven't been on these boards for a very long time so greetings to you all.

We are considering a coop class for ds11 (soon to be 12). One of the classes is Pre-Algebra using Math-U-See. Ds has done Singapore so far, completing 6B this past school year. So, has anyone transitioned from Singapore to Math-U-See? Was it a logical transition? Did your child(ren) struggle with differences in material presentation?

Thanks in advance for any help or insights!

Renee

I personally wouldn't use the upper level MUS. I used the Algebra 1 and they did not use the standard math notation that all other math texts I have used used. I've taught from BJU(this is my favorite Alg so far) and Saxon, and I did Trig, pre cal, Cal 1 and 2 in college and never did they use the notation that MUS used. Anyway that is my opinion. My suggestion is that if you aren't good at math yourself use BJU DVD (The text is hard to teach from if you aren't strong in math), VideoText Algebra or Chalkdust. Anyway HTH.

We went from Singapore 6A (couldn't do 6B--too many "I don't know" answers from ME!) to MUS Pre-Algebra with no problems. In fact, MUS was actually much easier than Singapore. I have heard that the MUS Algebra program is light, but we plan on continuing with it for 7th, then do an online algebra class for 8th. The MUS Pre-Algebra has been very straightforward, and a good fit for us.
