7th Grade Language Arts help, please?

Any and all suggestions welcome.

We're switching from an eclectic, Mama made mish-mash, to "real" planned curriculum this year. :) We've decided to go with Sonlight as Ana is an avid reader.

But, I'm looking at the Language Arts schedule and it seems fairly... I don't know... weak?

She doesn't need vocabulary or spelling... never has. She loves to write and spends an hour, or three, daily writing, keeps journals, writes letters, stories, poetry, etc, but I feel she needs more direction. We've used Rod & Staff up 'til this point.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Analytical Grammar is a great way to sure up Grammar before high school. It can be done in 1,2 or 3years. You don't do it for the whole year unless you want to complete it in one year. This would give you time to add writing. I really like IEW and will be using their Ancient History lessons next year since we are studying the Ancients. Sonlight gives you plenty of literature.

:iagree: That is also the best combination I have found although after Aesop we have dropped R&S because they been so solid. Between Homer and our grammar based Latin we get more than enough.

The writing in R&S's English series *really* picks up in 7th grade. Maybe you should continue with that and let your dd to the writing on the side that she enjoys doing.

We don't use this, but someone who loves writing as much as your dc is bound to enjoy CW. I believe they have lessons for older beginners that takes the student through the early levels at a quicker pace.

Why not continue R&S? You are getting to the books where the writing instruction becomes more important, so I wouldn't quit now. :)

I agree with sticking with R&S or I also really like BJU Writing and Grammar. BJU has you doing Writing one week and grammar the next week switching each week.
