I want to make her some simple A line skirts that fall just below the knee or perhaps a little longer for this coming spring. It cant be that hard (please tell me it cant!). I assume I cut the material on the fold, sew up the back center seam and put in an elastic waist.

But, how do I figure out how long to cut the material? How much of an angle to cut it so it is A lined not straight? What is the easiest way to put in an elastic waist - it has been a while since I did one? HOw do I determine yardage for skirt and lining?? Thanks!!!

How to Sew a Simple Girly Skirt (http://pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-to-sew-simple-girly-skirt.html)

Explains how to figure out how much fabric you'll need, how to measure it, etc. Very useful and great pictures. It reminds me that I need to hit that sale at the fabric store next week for my girly-girls.

Patterns are often on sale at the fabric store for 99 cents...for me, it's a lot easier to get the look I want with a pattern. (Maybe I'm just a sewing wimp.)

Cut out 2 pieces on the fold. Have the seams on the side. Insert an elastic and encase. Cut elastic approx. 75% of the measurement of the waist. When you cut out material on the fold it will look more like a cone shape.
