I was reading a thread below that said it could be at age 9? Would that be early or late 9? I didn't know it could be so early! Would it be any earlier? Just wondering what I'm in for! (Dd just turned 8.)

My 11 yr old started around 9 1/2--10. She's peaking right now with attitude. My 15 year old started around 9, but didn't actually start her period until 2 years ago.
I dread my 11DD starting hers. She's my "babies come out of WHAT?" child and while she knows she has to bleed, she really does NOT like the idea. :)

my daughter was 9 also. She started her period just before her 10th bday though.

Mood swings started with my dd around 10 with MAJOR attitude issues to follow. She is now 11 and the attitude is in full swing (well, let's just say I can't imagine it getting worse!). No period, yet, thank God! Every girl is different.

My dd was 9 and started when she was 10. I wish she'd had more time before having to deal with all that. She might have been physically mature but she wasn't mentally ready for it at all. Sigh.

Crazies (emotional meltdowns) started around 8 1/2, but she's 11 1/2 now, and those have settled down now (mostly because she just understands what's happening). She hasn't started her period yet, but her chest is budding, and personality changes indicate it's coming soon.

The older is 13 and just got her period about a year ago. The younger one is 10 and hasn't started yet.
The older has been sent to her room for being disrespectful. The younger gets sent to her room for crying - until she can control herself.

changes are at full swing at 11 1/2. We are getting plenty of hormonal outbursts! She gets sent to her room because of her tone and for shouting. We have good days and bad days. Yesterday was a good day and she showed signs of maturing emotionally in a healthy way... but I know to expect lots of ups and downs!
No period yet, I hope she takes after me and doesn't get it too soon.

DD (10) began hormonal changes at 9y/o, but her body began developing at 8y/o. My two 8y/o dd's have not begun any changes. It depends on the individual girl and the gene pool. I'll let you know what I find in the next several years:D

My dd started her cycle when she was 12

Both my younger dd and I started with hormonal changes at 8. It took me 5 years to reach menarche after that! It varies greatly, and 9 is not at all uncommon.

I would agree that age 9 is pretty common. Mydd is almost 12 and has not began her period, but she is in full blown moodiness. KWIM? I know of girls who have started their periods at age 9.
