View Full Version : Can wax paper be used to line cookie sheets?

I just bought a roll of wax paper because I ran out. I splurge on this purchase every decade or so because I use it infrequently. I use it under and on top of dough I roll out, and once I used it to wrap sandwiches when I ran out of baggies.

On the box, there is a picture of cookies on a cookie sheet. I studied these cookies carefully. They look like baked oatmeal cookies -- not refrigerated no-bake cookies.

Can wax paper be used like parchment paper to line cookie sheets? I thought I'd ask here before I set my oven on fire or fill the house with toxic smoke.

Thanks,
RC

I usually ice cookies on wax paper, but I'm pretty sure you can't bake it. Parchment paper is used for that.

According to Reynold's (http://www.reynoldspkg.com/reynoldskitchens/en/faq_detail.asp?info_page_id=756&prod_id=1799&cat_id=1337), no--they say it will smoke. You can use it to line cake pans because the batter covers the paper completely.

Thanks. I thought that, but the picture on the box had me thinking I was wrong.

I use waxed paper to cover the counter and I set my baked cookies on it to cool. It is not for cooking, except under cake batter as already noted.

We have parchment paper that we use for baking cookies. They turn out so much better than when they are straight on the pan! Dd didn't know there was a difference and used wax paper once. The smoke and smell was awful. And, worst of all, the cookies had to be tossed.

I just started using this and it works GREAT! Onto I place:

cookies
homemade tacos/shells
pizza
burritos
biscuits
etc, etc

Did I say parchment works GREAT!!??? IT DOES!
