Do you recommend this or not for Grammar stage? Can it be used along with the SOTW Activity Guides, or how does it work?

I just found out about this tonight while looking through my rainbow resource catalog...and I'm looking for thoughts on it.

Thanks. :001_smile:

Do you recommend this or not for Grammar stage? Can it be used along with the SOTW Activity Guides, or how does it work?HO would typically be used in place of the SOTW AG. It's a series of secular lessons plans which (in Level 1) coordinate: readings from SOTW, CHOW, UILE; copywork (typically a dictionary definition; mapwork; activities; and, suggested extra reading. You may or may not choose to do narratives, depending on the child. Not all HO lessons contain readings from SOTW, but you could use the AG along with HO for most of the lessons. The AG has questions to help lead a child through the narratives; HO does not.

I use it more or less as is (minus some of the activities and colouring), but add in a novel of historical fiction for each lesson. We're talking Medieval slowly, so each lesson lasts about 2 weeks.

I tried using it with my ds for medieval grammer, but he liked doing SOTW better.

Hmm, thank you for replying. I think maybe we'll stick with the AG for SOTW and maybe add in UILE of world history.

But I'd appreciate any other thoughts on HO. And maybe I'll keep it in mind for logic stage.

I used SOTW AG along with HO Ancients last year.... but it was too much for us to keep up with (though I have a super fancy blank chart for planning/combining if anyone wants a copy of it).

Things that are different about HO: there are only 20 maps and they all have keys, there are definitions to look up every week, it arranges the material less chronologically but more by region, History Pockets are built into the schedule, I had a harder time finding the books on the HO list (even at Amazon!), there are no coloring pages (Dover coloring books had too much detail for my younger boys), the activities are fewer but more hands-on, and the discussion questions/answers aren't all laid out.

This year we are dropping HO and just doing SOTW to keep it simple. When choosing between the 2, SOTW was more "pick up and go" than HO (others may have a different experience -- HO is a bulleted list which is simple enough to follow).

Hey can I get a copy of this, please, please oh pretty please? I'm attempting to combine SOTW w/ HO right now and I'd like to see what you have.

DS has never been through the rotation, and I like SOTW and how the AG has the other book recommendations and the projects, but I also like the maturity that HO brings to the table.

I'd love a copy too! I'm using both HO and SOTW AG right now, just choosing which activities to go with. We're taking it slowly so we can have as much fun as possible. :D

I'd love a copy too Colleen in SEVA! I am still undecided and would like to see what you have just in case I decide to try to combine both! Thanks! :001_smile:
