Ds is currently enjoying Henry and Mudge and I've got Mr. Putter and Tabby and Poppleton on deck. We've already read through most of Little Bear and I'm planning to start Frog and Toad next year with SL second grade.
What other series are too good to miss at this stage of reading? Any that would particularly appeal to a 7yo boy?
Thanks!

I was going to say Frog and Toad:). I also recommend Owl at Home - really silly stories that my oldest two still recite from time to time.
Amelia Bedelia is fun in small doses.
Fox in Sox was one of my favorites as a child, as was Put Me in the Zoo.

We love Mouse Soup, Mouse Tales, and Uncle Elephant, all by Arnold Lobel.

Loved the ones you are already doing/planning. From there we went on to Nate the Great. And then I think she pretty much transitioned to regular books--as far as I can remember anyway!

Nate the Great. Kiddo now calls himself Karl the Snarl.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I can look forward to Andy the Dandy soon (not as good as Snarl, but I obviously missed the Nate the Great naming boat).

If your ds is interested in any nonfiction subjects, my dd enjoys reading the Usborne Beginners (http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=usborne+beginners&tag=googhydr-20&index=stripbooks&hvadid=1150168181&ref=pd_sl_fms6m4ba8_e), and they have them on a LOT of subjects. I think they are pretty well done. The Step Into Reading (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=step+into+reading&x=0&y=0) series has a lot of good books too, and they are numbered progressively so you can start at level one, then move up as their reading proficiency increases. I've been surprised at how much good scientific and historical content there is in some of these books.
