View Full Version : Would gestational diabetes cause my fatigue?

Those who know that I'm so extremely fatigued with this pregnancy, would gestational diabetes cause that? I have been sooooo thirsty today and have gone to the bathroom probably 10 times today. But it's also winter, it could be dry in the house. I have had close to a gallon of water today, and that's probably why I've gone to the bathroom so often. The glucola test isn't for another few weeks, but I'm just trying to put dots together - if there are any dots to even connect.

I think you can get these strips at the pharmacy that can test if there is sugar in your urine. Ask the pharmacist. My dh (an RN) says to look at your urine and see if it's "bubbly" - if it is, you are probably spilling sugar. (Personally, I'd rather ask the pharmacist!)

I would go ahead and start following the recommendations as if you had it. Actually, they are good recommendations for pregnant women in general - several smaller meals; balancing protein, fat, and sugar; less sugar in the morning; protein before bed; etc...

Janna, I'd listen to Jean and Angela. What is your diet like right now? How many weeks are you? I have to say that I was flat-out exhausted with my last pregnancy and there was no medical reason for it. The good new is, once the baby came, I was human again. ((()))

Can't say as I know for sure, but when I was pregnant with my twins I was totally and utterly exhausted, unlike my first pregnancy. I literally crawled into bed a couple times a day to rest. There were times when I would get weak and light headed if I didn't eat. I went into pre-term labor a week before the gluco test, but found out in the hospital that I had gestational diabetes. I don't remember drinking or urinating more frequently than usual, just being so drained of energy all the time (which could have just been a pregnancy thing- who knows). I would have it looked into, though. Would the pharmacy be able to do a quick blood sugar test? Know any diabetics that could check it for you? Good luck!
