I would like to get some perspective on why I should request a different vaccine-schedule than what the office would suggest. My baby is 5 weeks old now and has gotten the hepatitis so far. I am not really considering not immunizing, but would consider a diferent schedule or request specific vaccines if that has grounds for recomendations.
TIA.

I asked my ped to space them out just because I think they get too many at the same time. One time they wanted to give like 6 at the same time. If there's a problem, how on earth would you know what caused it??? I didn't have any research or scientific data for asking...just my mom's intuition that said "no, that's too many."

I have never done the delayed vaccine schedule but would if I had more children.

My gut says to wait until they are older to let them develop their immune systems somewhat. Vaccinations bypass many of the bodies natural responses to illness, not to mention that the stuff the put in those shots is down right scary. I am still in research mode, I am not sure yet what we are doing for vaccinations.
Two books that I have found very helpful are:
What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations by Stephanie Cave (http://www.amazon.com/What-Doctor-About-Childrens-Vaccinations/dp/0446677078/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b)
and
Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parent's Guide: How to Make Safe, Sensible Decisions about the Risks, Benefits, and Alternatives by Aviva Jill Romm (http://www.amazon.com/Vaccinations-Thoughtful-Sensible-Decisions-Alternatives/dp/0892819316/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b)

I can't jusify not immunizing as I almost lost my firstborn infant son to pertussis at age 6 weeks. He was infected by some school-aged kid apparently.
I guess it makes sense to spread the out in case they get a reaction so you can know what caused it...

Yes, spacing them out is what I'm planning to do to when that times comes - if it ever gets here, LOL. Is it May yet? ;)
But think about it - you only introduce foods one at a time (or are supposed to anyway), why wouldn't you do the same thing with shots? It's just an unnecessary overload that can wait, imnsho.

I'm following the schedule in The Vaccine Book by Robert Sears. My pediatrician and I both agreed that it seemed a reasonable compromise between the two extremes of "no vaccines" and "six-at-a-time".
My pediatrician also liked that the first ones given at two months include the DTap because he's seen too many babies getting sick early in their lives with perteussis.
I don't know how to link but I got the book from Amazon late in 2007.
