My guess is Ben. Wasn't friend or family but he made a big impact on their lives. Who do you think and why?

I second Ben. He's the only one that seems to make sense with Kate's reaction to the news.

... trying to read that newspaper clipping. I couldn't make it fit anyone.

I have NO idea who it is. I thought and thought and thought, and can't think any more :)

And I'm not going to be able to watch tonight. Grumble. It's my oldest's birthday, and he wants to watch a Star Trek movie. Silly child.

James. But, Ben is another good guess.

I guess Sawyer too! I had not thought of Ben. But I stand by Sawyer. Ican't wait. The DVR is set and the tacos are ready to get made, just waiting for DH to get home.

This may be just a tad bigger than the SuperBowl! UMmmmm...never mind....lost my mind for a minute. I am OK now. We have just been waiting for sooooooo long for this. I like last night's recap with the pop ups:D as my daughter called them.

It was her birthday yesterday but she let me watch Lost. That is what a good child does! ;) (I bribed her with more cake);).

Now I will stay off the boards until after I watch Lost (West Coaster) cause I know you all will be talking about it and I won't be able to stand it.

My guess is Locke. Surely Kate would have gone if it had been James/Sawyer but I guess maybe not if she felt he had tricked/betrayed her or something and it would explain Jack thinking she would want to go.

I thought at first that it was Sawyer. But when Kate came to meet Jack she said she had to go home because "he will wonder where I am" I thought then "he" must be Sawyer.

So maybe Ben or Locke.

My thoughts. Sawyer is in the coffin and Kate is married to Ben. The way she said "he" will be waiting, and the way she was so unnaturally made up made me think she is in some kind of weird situation. Maybe an arrangement made to get off the island?

We never watched Lost until a couple of months ago, and now we've watched every episode from the beginning through the end of Season 3 on Netflix. We are totally hooked!

We don't have tv, so we'll have to wait until this new season is out on DVD to see it. IT's going to kill me.

The obit/newspaper article mention that the deceased is from New York, and has a teenage son. The funeral parlor is in an ethnic part of town and while that could be anyone, it would fit best with someone who would have roots there.

If I remember right, he traded in his friends for his son after the kidnapping. He was the cause of Jack, Kate and Sawyer getting caught by the others.

I think "he" is her son. I think she is already pregnant. ;)

I also think it's Michael. It would also explain why no one was at the funeral. If he betrayed the survivors, that would become known after they were rescued.

but it didn't seem as much time had passed, would a small child be wondering where she is?

I agree that Michael is a great guess but there's no mention of a son from what I can tell. There's a screenshot online, see for yourself. http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:Newspaperclipping2.jpg (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:Newspaperclipping2.jpg)

This is true, but what if it's.....

Rose? She said last night that there was no way she was going with Locke. So she was there with Jack and Kate waiting for the rescuers to come to the beach. Maybe she and Bernard ended up going home, her cancer came back and she died? Although the show never mentioned that she ever had a child as such, so I could be way of base.

Just a thought.

One reason I don't think it's Ben or John is because I don't think they would leave the island. Also, I think we're going to be shocked at who it is, and they both have reasons that Kate would not attend the funeral and Jack would not consider them family or friend.

I'm spending way too much time thinking about this. :)

The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim’s loft. Concerned for tenants’ safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening.”

There is speculation that Michael would have changed his name when he came back home for numerous reasons. To hide himself and Walt from any Losties that get found or are also released from the island is a common thought. Or to hide from family.

I think that coffin looks way too small for big, beefy Sawyer to fit.

Kate married to Ben?! Now that's a thought.
