A friend sent me this link (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=189625&catid=45532&brand=21917&trx=BS-21917&trxp1=HPFP&trxp2=0&trxp3=189625&btrx=BS-21917). It is an ad for Scotch Guard scrubbers made with walnut shells. People in her allergy support group are trying to find out whether or not all Scotch Guard products have potentially been exposed to tree nuts.
I thought I'd pass along the information because I know there are people here who have nut allergies in their families.

Thanks, Anj!
That's kind of scary for me... I can imagine many of my friends would be interested in a product like that -- but I wonder what it would mean for ds to lean up on a kitchen counter scrubbed with one of those, or eat food cooked in a pan cleaned with one... sigh. Man, I wish I didn't have to worry about allergies. :(

I know what you mean. My first reaction was "What a cool way to get further use from the nuts and avoid using plastic." But then I thought about the possible ramifications for someone who is allergic. Could pots, pans, dishes, etc. become contaminated? Furthermore, does the manufacturing plant take any precautions to avoid cross contamination between those sponges and the standard ones?

We ran into a funny situation in this regard--you know the wall texture that is on most walls today? Well in the day it was put on our walls, it was made of walnut shells. THAT was a pleasant surprise when we did some remodeling...NOT.
Thanks for the heads-up, Anj.

Thank you so much for the info, Anj. I'm beside myself thinking about the ramifications of this seemingly smart product.
My ds is allergic.
