Is anyone else hesitant about ordering Year 3 when they haven't listed any of the books they will use? I saw a note on the TOG boards that said they're working on the list and that quite a few of the Dialectic/Rhetoric books are changing. When I spoke with Marc (Marsha's husband) he said they would be releasing the booklists unit by unit, so only the Unit 1 list would be released at first. I just don't think I order the guide without knowing what books they will be using. We are moving to Japan in the summer, and I really need to know what books will be required before the move.
Anyway, I guess I'm asking for permission to use Sonlight Year 7 next year, and not worry about using TOG until my dd's 9th grade year. What do you think? We've used a lot of Sonlight and I really like it even though I love the look, philosophy, worksheets, etc. of TOG. Thanks!

There's a thread on the TOG forum where Marcia said April for the booklist but I'm not sure if it's the entire year or not. In your case, I would use something else while you're gone. It's just the circumstances of the production schedule. You could look at the Classic Year 3 books on the old Tapestry website and use some of those titles with whatever program you use.

We used a SL 7/100 combo over two years for my oldest son's 7th & 8th grade years. Love the books! Great stuff. I owned TOG, but couldn't seem to figure it out enough to use it on its own. (Sometimes I'm pretty slow. :o) So I flipped through the TOG guides and used some of the activities. Toward the middle of the 8th grade year, I started using TOG more and more and lightened up on the SL history. We are using TOG 1 Redesign this year and are loving it, but you can bet that my younger guy will be reading those SL 7 books. (My kids love reading, so having lots and lots and lots of titles around is the best plan. AND I've done this long enough to know that the books don't HAVE to be all used in chronological order. I stick with the plan that I'm using at the time and tuck in extra titles around the edges.) As I said, we are loving TOG, but my kids STILL wander up to me before bedtime and ask, "Hey mom! Do you have a Sonlight book I can read? Their reputation around here is strong; they're that good! :)
So consider your request for permission granted! Fret not! Enjoy your year!

Permission granted!:) If you are getting ready for a move... I would want whats easiest and already available....

Have you looked at the Classic TOG? It is still very good. And you can buy it fairly cheap. If you don't like that then I would go with Sonlight to make things easier.

I'm not hesitant at all, Year 1 Redesign was great and Year 2 was even better. I'm sure year 3 will exceed all my expectations.
