Looking ahead to 4th grade, I really want to do just Amer Hist. We are doing just Amer Hist (Explorers to 1815) for third grade too. (I'm using the Abeka 4 textbook, which I've already scheduled as a spine with TQ books, and it's actually a nice spine!)
I'll need some kind of spine for the second half of Amer History though. Hakim is too liberal for us. I have Child's Story of America, but it's kind of boring. All the older books (Guerber, etc.) don't go up to present. It doesn't have to be Christian, just Christian friendly! Thanks for any ideas.

there's one out there that's outstanding that I could use for both years, I'd want to know that before I start this year!

Abeka4 is a little lean on the 20th century, but when you expand it out with Story of US vol. 3 and 4, it works out great. I'll send you the schedule.
You already have the best spine you can find for history at this age. Don't plague yourself. :)

Because vol 3 and 4 of Hakim aren't 20th century. Oh, do you mean the Escher? And where can I see samples of that? Anyway, no plaguing here, I'm really happy about Abeka4 for this yr, but what I meant was if I'm going to need to switch to Hakim for the NEXT year, I'd want to read some of it this year too so we're not starting in the middle.

We used the History of Us series starting in third grade, and it has been a HIT! For fourth grade, you could use it as a read-aloud.
We have also loved TruthQuest, and some use that as a spine of topics to cover. We use TQ/History of Us together and it has been great for us. This year will be our third and final year with TQ/HOU. :crying:
Edit: PS - Nevermind, just saw HOU has been ruled out. Have you seen the books for yourself, or are you going by what others have said? I ask because I almost missed out on this series because of other's opinions. We are very conservative, Bible-believing Christians, and we love History of US.

I'm just very unsure of my ability to put my views into History of US, especially for the modern era-we're not that political around here, just conservative on all politics, so it's hard for me to put the "spin" that I want on things. I was hoping for something with a nice spin that I agree with already, if that makes any sense. Your schedules are my "backup plan" though!

It isn't exactly a spine, but their year 5 cards (used in their grade 6 year)cover the EXACT time period you want. We loved it. And did it in 4th grade with no problems.
