View Full Version : I'd appreciate good thoughts . . .

My son and I rescued a very young, very skinny, very pregnant cat Saturday night. I mean, I see strays all the time, but this one just insinuated herself into my consciousness in a way I could not ignore. I brought her home, knowing in my head that it was a really, really stupid thing to do, because we already have the two cats allowed in our lease. I cannot keep her, and I knew that the odds of finding someone to take in a pregnant stray were somewhere between slim and none, but . . .

I went to church on Sunday and made a pest of myself begging people to take the cat. I talked my husband into agreeing to donate money to an organization to cover her care and medical bills for a couple of months. I contacted the one person I know who is personally involved in cat rescue, who e-mailed me back wishing me luck but quoting me the dismal statistics. I made lists of rescue agencies in our area, every one of which has a notice on its website that warns they do not accept strays from "the general public." And I was just waiting until today to call and beg them, anyway. I went to the Petco to buy some additional food and litter and bugged the ladies running the cat adoption event until they took my phone number.

And, as of this morning, it looks like I may have found her a foster home that will take her in. They will foster her and the kittens and try to find adoptive homes for all of them.

I have an appointment to drop her off this afternoon, but it still seems too good to be true. I honestly expected this to be a much bigger ordeal and don't quite trust that it will all work out. She (the cat) is just incredibly sweet and affectionate and really deserves a chance to be somebody's beloved pet. So, I would greatly appreciate any positive thoughts you all could send our way this afternoon.

Aw, poor kitty. How sweet of you to take her in temporarily. Good luck finding her a good home. :001_smile:

I hope it works out for the poor cat. How sweet of you to work so hard to find her some care.

A good deed, and kindness to animals is especially smiled upon. Blessings to you for helping the kitty. I hope she goes to a good home.

It went without a hitch. We drove her to the office of the woman who will be fostering her until she gives birth and the kittens are ready to be adopted out. Once they get past that point, the mother cat will be spayed and put up for adoption. The kittens will be moved to another foster home (where the woman "specializes" in kittens) while the agency looks for homes for them, too.

The two women we met were so nice and caring. We felt really good about putting out feline friend into their hands.

I still can't believe we managed to find her a good situation so quickly and painlessly. It feels like a miracle.

Thanks for your concern.
