I'm taking a quick break from packing up the school supplies I gathered--I still have some tweaking to do on my lesson plans--but I'll have time to work on that on the LONG trip over. I'll be teaching 3rd and 5th grade maths--I'll be demonstrating teaching with the manipulative's I purchased and made for the school. The school is at a children's home for HIV orphans. The 100 children are between the ages of 3 and 10. Luckily all but the youngest few speak English (the official language of Uganda).

I'd appreciate any prayers you could send my way. I'm feeling a bit stressed--my home is NOT in the order I would like it to be in before I leave--I have to drive dd to the doctor in the 'city' tomorrow (follow up on her pneumonia from last week) so tomorrow is already FULL. I'll be up LATE tonight too...I'll be gone 2 weeks (and this jean wearing mama has to wear DRESSES the whole time--YUCK!). They will look GREAT with my jogging shoes...

I'll miss the boards--but I know I'll be VERY busy too! I look forward to some late night reading to catch up on the boards when I get back.

Blessings!

Trust me, you do NOT want to wear pants there! No one will care about your shoes, and you'll appreciate not being seen as a "loose woman" - the 'kabina' (sp?) (think caboose) is considered quite an attractive area!

Did you find some good books to take?

Have a wonderful time, and Mungu awabariki sana!

I don't have the right words to express how kind, loving and brave you are in going so far in helping those kids. I have never been to Africa, but spent time in other impoverished parts of the world, and I know the children will melt your heart and you will always be so thankful for this trip. I have no doubt that whatever you give these children they will give you back a thousand times over in joy. Have a wonderful trip!
