I saw them in the store yesterday. I don't know why I was even on the baby aisle!

IN case you are peeking and wondering what they are - they appear to be a cross between disposable and cloth diapers. There is a cover (like cloth) but then the liner that actually catches everything is flushable or trashable (like disposable). gdiapers.com

I'm just wondeirng if they realy work and are as wonderful as they say.

I remember hearing about these when I started researching cloth diapers. I know a lot of moms at the mothering.com (http://www.mothering.com/) forums did not like them. I can't quite remember the exact details though. As a cloth diaper drop out, I think that they are probably better for the environment then the disposable diapers I am throwing in the land fill.

I use them and have been very happy with them. I started using them when dd's umbilical cord fell off, and we'e still using them 6 months later. They work very well.

I heard about these on the boards many months ago - maybe over the summer? Someone mentioned that they weren't good for newborns - lots of leakage? But after that initial stage they were good. Would you agree with this? I have had it in my mind to buy some of these but was going to wait until my little guy was about 3 months old first. I haven't seen them in the stores though! I thought I was going to have to buy online directly from the source.

Also, Amy, how many would you recommend I have? I know what the website recommends, but as someone who uses them and likes them, what would YOU recommend? Oh, and btw, I got your message about the vegetarian diet and starting out with a large salad and filling up with that first. What a great idea! I'm sorry I never responded, but I have been thinking about it! Thank you!

Most of the reviews I read said that they were prone to clogging up plumbing.

Well, I think if you have a skinny newborn you will have leaks. At 8-8.5 lbs, though, we didn't have the leak issue.

I'm a big proponent of these diapers, but unless you don't mind spending the money, you may just want to wait until your little one is up to the medium size (around 16 lbs.). You just need a lot for the newborns - what with the constant runny poops and all - and you grow out of the small size so very quickly. I had 7 and it was enough, but I do a load of laundry every day. But once you hit medium size, the poops are less frequent and less runny, so you can use the same cover all day, just changing the insert. So how many of those to get would depend on your laundry routine. I have six and it is more than enough with my daily laundry routine. However, I may get more in the summer to have all the different colors to wear with summer dresses.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your salads!

Well, that hasn't been a problem here. Our toilets do clog, but not, ahem, due to the g's. If you live in a very old house, or have tree infested plumbing, that would be another matter.

Thanks, Amy. Yes, I was thinking of waiting until size med. I'm glad you mentioned that was around 16 lbs, because I don't think it gave approx. weight for each size on their website, if I remember correctly.

When you say you have 6, does that mean 6 covers? Or 6 liners? I know each cover comes with liners, but you can buy more, right? About how many of those do you have? Have you found these in the stores to buy (the flushable inserts) or do you buy online? If you buy at the store, would you bother to use these still if you had to buy online? All I can find at health food stores is Seventh Generation. I thought for sure Whole Foods would have them, but they don't.

Thanks for answering all of my questions!

I have six covers, each came with two liners. Like I said, more than enough at this stage of the game.

Our Whole Foods does carry them, but I order the online because our Whole Foods is far away, so I only go occasionally. If you buy a case of inserts (4 packs) at a time from the gDiapers website, you get a discount, so it works out to be about the same cost with shipping.
