Just wondering how many books everyone has completed. I've finished nine and I've got four more (along with some other books) in my pile (which really isn't a pile - I seem to have stacks of books everywhere!)

Still working on: The Iliad, How the Irish Saved Civilization, Six-Point Plan for Raising a Happy Family, and Persuasion.

So, what's in your pile?

I'm working on The Book Thief, Mere Christianity, Don Quixote, My Life for Yours and Just Walk Across the Room. I have finished 4 others. I'm enjoying reading deliberately!

Doing pretty good, I've finished six, and should finish my seventh this weekend (Year of Living Biblically). Currently I'm working on I Am the Messenger (M. Zusak), The Castle Corona (S Creech), and Eat, Pray, Love (E. Gilbert). My full list is on my blog. I hope to keep up this pace, but I know that will be harder in the summer months. :p

I was really struggling with "The Skeptical Environmentalist" and then realized that a quarter of the book is notes. Yay! I'm much further than I thought I was.

I'm also working on "The Blind Watchmaker". I've got one on ILL and need to get going ordering some more.

Homeschooling is really getting in the way of my reading!!! I've developed a great list (for me, anyway) and plan to read through it. But I've had to come to grips with the fact that I may not finish them all by the end of the year. So far, I've finished 4 or 5 and I will continue to work on it. I've been reading some other books too, but I will finish those books, someday!

I know what you mean. I keep seeing recommendations for books and my reading pile keeps growing. ;)

I'm really enjoying the challenge! I like that it has made me more goal-oriented and focused in what I read. I'm purposely choosing--and I've swapped books in my list a few times!--from a wider variety of material.

ANYwho... I have finished 6 books from my 888 list and 5 other books. I'm reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn right now, which is not on my 888 either.

I'm trying to get into the habit of marking or writing down passages of each book that I enjoy, writing a brief review and brief plot synopsis, and also making a list of the main characters. I ALWAYS forget names from books that I read and then when I'm trying to describe it to someone else, particularly to recommend it, I sound like a dork who didn't really read it. LOL

What is the 888 list?

The general idea is that you choose 8 book in 8 different categories of books and read them all in 2008. The categories can be any that you want, and 8 of the books can fit into 2 categories so that you are reading 56 books this year.

I am reading about 3-4 books a week.
The next me book I will be starting is Emma and that will probably take me longer thatn most books. I have gotten so into JAne Austen I may add an addition Jane Austen related category.

What are the categories--or is it various genre? I'm definitely interested, but would like more guidance.
Thanks!

You pick your own catagories! Anything goes, apparently. :) I've seen some really creative catagories. Unfortunately, I'm not so creative, or maybe it is that the books I wanted to read didn't line up into fascinating groups, LOL. I'm doing Ancient History, Parenting/Homeschooling, Non-Fiction, Read-Alouds with my 6 yo, Christianity, Just for Fun, Literature, and Books for Book Club.
