Thought I'd post this for those whose kids have sensory issues or fears with water. I used to post on this board regularly, but haven't had a lot of need in the past year or two.
My eldest HATED water on her face and ears for 8 1/2 years. Now she's on a swim team. Learning to skate taught her balance, swimming taught her better coordination--she's doing well and is well coordinated (no super jock, but doing well.) My 9 yo was afraid to be in water where she couldn't touch the bottom. She's on a swim team. My ds HATED baths for 17 months, and until the age of 7 was always worried that the next pool wouldn't be bouyant. He's not on the swim team, because he still kicks wrong and needs to learn the strokes (he even managed to go backward one day), but he now loves the water and since my 9 yo had the same kicking issue, I know he can lick it. btw, this ds used to be in early intervention for low muscle tone but he's doing much, much better now.
Laura in China's post about Calvin got me thinking about this.
