For those who go to concerts in NYC, one of my old colleagues/friends is a featured composer in this concert. He's pro-homeschooling, although he and his wife afterschool as she's into her career and he can't compose and homeschool (his daughter is 5 or 6 now). How good is his music? Well, I'm very, very fussy about music, but some of the things I've heard of his are very good (I never like all work from any composer), particularly his work since becoming a parent. I haven't heard this one so cannot say anything about it. The following is a quote from his latest email.

"The next performance of my music will be at the Lincoln Center, New York:

http://www.poamericas.org/index.html
Friday June, 6 @7pm
Percussion Feast!
Avery Fischer Hall, Lincoln Center
20 West 63rd Street
New York City
Featuring Mexican percussion group TAMBUCO
Works by Gamboa, Jarvlepp and Revueltas
Alondra de la Parra" (conductor)

This conductor promotes music from the Americas, and Jan Jarvlepp is the one I knew when I was in Ottawa. We both taught music for the Ottawa Board of Education's extracurricular music program (he teaches, performs as a freelance cellist and composes).
