I am interested in IEW but it is so expensive! I cannot afford $229 for the Teaching Writing Structure and Style DVDs that are meant for the teacher along with the Student Intensive program. I could get the Student Intensive DVDs and the TWSS syllabus. Would this be do-able or is it absolutely essential to have the TWSS DVDs? Thanks.

one can teach writing by using the TWSS to learn the method themselves and then using materials you already own and to intertwine writing with other subjects.

For those that need a bit more hand holding but still want to be the teacher, the TWSS with a grade appropriate theme based unit would be the next cheapest route.

For those who's child would benefit from having someone other then mom teach or those who aren't comfortable teaching writing, SWI provides instruction directly to the student.

There are many options, you need to think about what would work best in your family.

I just purchased the SWI B and downloaded the free lesson plans that go with it. I was just reading over this last night, and here's a quote from the author: "Although you can successfully use the SWI without the teacher's course, watching the Teacher's program before watching the student lesson will provide you with many of the reasons behind the instruction given as well as other teaching tips to aide your student in writing. If you do not have the teacher's course, you can still use the SWI successfully."
