Do people know that when they send a PM in response to a For Sale or WTB item, that they can request the board to email them notification that they have a PM waiting for them?

I have numerous cases where I am sent a PM about something I have listed and I have responsed with a PM, because they don't allow emails from other members, and the PM is never picked up. If you go to the "User Control Panel" and select "Edit Options" you can request that the board notify you if you have a PM waiting. Your email address is not shared with other users, but you are notified about the PM.

When you send a PM to someone you can request that the system let you know when the PM has been read. There is a box to check below the space where you type in the PM. You don't receive email notification, but you can look at your private messages and it shows which ones have been read and which ones are unread.

Thank you for this information. I have PM'd so many people about things I want to purchase and never get a reply. By the time I check back, the item is sold.

I just found the e-mail notification today! I had 2 pms that I hadn't seen and figured there had to be some sort of notification. From this day forward... I will be notified! YAY! :)

so I usually say so in my post. I prefer to keep it simple (everything in one place) and have a regular email from the person, so I have it in my email folder as a record. I have a record of my replies and their response, etc.

If someone doesn't want to share at least their email, then I don't want to sell to them. To sell to someone, I want a valid email address and then I ship to the address given in Paypal.

I suppose if I am buying, I feel the same way, I want a valid email address from them and an email record of our conversation and transaction.

This is just my opinion and something to think about.

then, you have to the site and go through the process of logging in and reading it, plus replying back and forth through the web system. I don't always have time for all that. I would prefer to just get an email and then I can reply to that email and all our correspondence is in my email program and I have a record for as long as necessary until all items are received and the transaction is completely finished.

That is just what I find easier and I like to keep it simple.

But how do you PM someone? I'm kinda new and still haven't figured it out. I know it's one of those things that make you embarrassed to ask because it's so easy, but then that's what friends are for, right? :001_huh: Thanks!

just click on the person's name and then choose PM.

Yep! I told you I'd feel dumb, but thanks for telling me. Now I won't be so lost all the time! :)

Thanks for this information. Very helpful! I kept missing PM's forgetting that they don't come to my regular email.
