I'm looking at this along with the suggested great books in TWTM. I also noticed there are 84 chapters in this book. How many chapters are you covering a week and what are you requiring? Perhaps a better question... how would I make this a solid 9th grade ancient history course?

Not yet. She did not write it in time for my current high schooler.

My next highschooler will be using it. I hope she manages to stay ahead of us with the rest of the series. I'd hate it if Gabriel did not get to graduate before he hits his early 20's just because his history books were still being written!

I am, with my ds. However, he is a major history buff. Read the book on his own when in first came out and read it again this year as part of his history. He thinks it is great and can't wait for the next one.

I used it last year for my 9th and 11th graders. I assigned it a few chapters a week, along with several Spielvogel chapters and some Teaching Company Western Civ. dvds. We also used Smarr Ancient Lit and, with a few extra books, we had a good year!

My older daughter enjoyed this book but my younger daughter *really* enjoyed it - she had Susan autograph our copy at a convention last spring!

My ds used it last semester. Originally I intended to use it all year, but I soon realized that he could easily read a chapter per day. He wrote on a topic every-other chapter. We are continuing with Spielvogel's Western Civ this semester.

This is helpful information! I may mix it up with my Spielvogel and stretch it to a year.

Oh, I think it's definitely enough to make a solid course. You could add in discussion questions from WEM, along with readings from the period detailed in WEM, have your child write on certain topics, etc. I believe someone recently posted tests they had started compiling for this book, too, so search back a little and try to find those on the high school board. I'm planning on using it if I'm still hsing for high school next time around!
