I plan to get a color printer for use in my room at school to print only color copies. I send all my b/w copies to the main copier in our building. Since I don't have a color printer at all (I have a laser b/w at home), I want some direction about purchasing the best printer to fit my needs.

Dd suggested an HP D1420.
Any pros/cons about this model?
Any other suggestions?

I'd really like one that produces a good color print and doesn't run through color ink quickly. Also, please advise about the prices of ink cartridges for the models suggested to give me an idea of expense.

Many thanks!

Consumer Reports has a great report on printers, they include the cost per print in it. The cheapest is the HP Office Jet L7580 (it's dark - i cant' read the model number right now i'm 99% that is it), i bought it and have been happy with it. It's an all in one, i wasn't pricing straight printers. This one is actually cheaper on black prints than a laser printer at 1.8 cents per page!

The next best were the kodaks.

You can join CR for $6 for one month. You will save more than that by getting the right printer for the job!

I should add, i got an AWESOME deal on it at Office Depot a few weeks ago - $169! That was $100 less than Costco even!!!
