Anyone else done the emailing or calling that HSLDA requested to get Senate Bill 2271 defeated? I did -- one of my very few forays into the democratic process (other than voting, of course) -- and got responses.
One from Senator Tom King:
Thank you for your email. I have met with Education Chairman Videt Carmichael, and he feels the same as I do regarding S.B. 2271. This is a very inappropriate bill and will not come out of the Education Committee. This bill is dead. Thank you for sharing your concerns with me.
One from Senator Lee Yancey:
Thank you for your e-mail. I agree with you wholeheartedly and will vote against the bill. God bless you and your family.
I was very happy to hear these responses and wondered if any one else has gotten similar ones. For those who haven't heard, there is currently active legislation in the education committee to require homeschoolers to conform to public school standards for promotion from grade to grade. Check out the HSLDA site for more information.
