I know you can either do

Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2

or

Algebra 1
Algebra 2
Geometry

But what if the Algebra 2 course, is an Algebra 2 & Trig textbook? Can you do

Algebra 1
Algebra 2 & Trig
Geometry

Or does Geometry always have to come before Trigonometry?

BTW most Algebra 2/Trig texts do not contain a full semester of Trig--more of an intro... if your student will be taking a Pre-Calc course after that it will contain more Trig.

I tend to prefer Geometry before Trig as it can be nice introduction (Rt triangles...).

Geometry will introduce trig functions and when your dc takes Trig then they will have a bit of a footing to stand on. Finally, standardized tests like the PSAT and SAT are going to have geometry on them. In that case, it would be best to aim for having the geometry taken by the 10th grade and the Algebra II by 11th grade.

I have a very bright DS.. Although, sometimes it seems he forgets everything we did the previous school year over the summer!

If we do Algebra in 8th then Geometry in 9th I'm worried:

A. He we have forgotten most of his Algebra 1 by the time he gets to Algebra 2
B. He will have forgotten most of his Geometry by the time he gets to the SATs and any other test

I thought
Algebra 1
Algebra 2
Geometry
followed by a strong Pre-Calculus would be perfect.

But I found some Algebra2 & Trig textbooks that I really, really like. *I* also have a personal quirk with completing entire textbooks, before I can call it "complete". So I was worried doing Trig before Geometry might really confuse a person. But now it seems like that will be OK
