There are seminars, but I have an attitude about paying $100 for the seminar and then another $100 for the curriculum!

BUT, I just found out that there's a dvd ($20) which shows how to get started with the program. That, along with the SWR Yahoo group, I think would really help. But OhE mentioned WRTR and I'm going to borrow that from the library, order the dvd, watch it after reading through WRTR, THEN maybe I'll feel better prepared for SWR.

In looking more into the online samples of SWR and Wise Guide, it appears to be easier than I thought..... but that's silly - I don't have the 200+ page teacher guide in front of me! :D

Anyway, the dvd is sold here:

and there was a review of the dvd somewhere but I can't find it now.

Actually, there are TWO videos, hehe! One is of Sanseri teaching a class. You know, it might be just the thing to get you going, because you could watch, rewind, etc. I know it's not exactly the same as WRTR, but the two are close enough that if you have the video of the one and the book of the other, I'll bet things click for you. This isn't rocket science, just spelling, lol.

The other video is by Britta of MorningStarLearning and also quite good. It's a bit different though, more of an overview with an emphasis on really beginning learners. I think for your purposes, the Sanseri video makes more sense.

Let us know how it goes! :)

I found it really helpful even after watching the DVD by Britta. She does a good job giving an overview. However, the seminars were well worth the money if you can afford it. The interaction with a trainer is very helpful, especially in the questions people posed in class. There were things like finger spelling that my seminar trainer taught that I don't remember seeing on the DVD. This was really helpful for my daughter who had already spent 6 months of it with me prior to my attending training. She seemed to really get it. The manual may say something about it too but when you're just starting out, these minor details may get missed.

Yes, you can do SWR without attending the seminar but if you're on the fence on whether to go, I highly reccomend it. $200 covers K-High School. My seminar trainer offers a 50% for alumnaes of her training. I hope to take it again to review anything that I may have missed the first time around.
