I was thinking of trying to soak steel cut oats over night to help cut the cooking time down. I can't recall what the measurements of oats/water is and also, in the morning, will I need to add some more water or just put it cooking as is?

Thanks!

There was a post a day or so ago about steel cut oats, and there were links to recipes for doing these in the crock pot, along with other suggestions. I can't find it, but maybe you could do a search with "steel cut oats." HTH.

I do 3C of water per 1C of oats. Soak overnight. No need to add water in the morning. Just bring it to a boil over med heat and then simmer for 5-10 minutes.

I love steel cut oats. I like mine creamy so I do 4 cups water to 1 cup oats. I add a little brown sugar, golden raisins or dried cranberries and a little cinnamon. Yum!

I've never soaked them overnight before though...I'll have to try it.

I just put mine in the crock pot on low and let them simmer all night. It was nice getting up to a hot pot full of oats....:001_smile:

I bring 3 to 1 to a boil in the evening and then put on the lid and turn off the heat. The next morning I just warm them through and they're perfect. Saves time if your family likes to eat right away.

Now you see, I tried that and the oats were YUMMY!! But, scrubbing the crock pot was a nightmare. Have you had this problem?

Another vote 1:4 oats to water ratio and soaking overnight.

YES - I had the same problem. And the top layer of oats was sort of gluey-like.
