Not pointless at all. Many people have preferences they can share. I prefer the older, as I find mistakes in the newer one, and I don't like the reading passages as much in the newer.

One difference that was mentioned a couple of years ago on the boards was about the spelling rules. The tip (or rule) for the same lesson was compared between both editions and it did seem that the newer edition had improved on its explanations of the spelling rules.

We use the new version. And I haven't found any mistakes, yet. But now I'm worried that I've missed them altoghether!!

Another difference may be in the price. If I am not mistaken, you cna buy the new edition from the publisher less than the old edition from homeschool vendors.

And of course the sports theme in the obvious difference.
