We bought this book Backyard Ballistics which showed how to build a potato cannon. My husband has built this with my boys but hasn't fired it yet. (They're letting the glue dry) Frankly, firing this thing makes me nervous. I was just wondering if anyone has ever done this before and is it safe?

My rowdy boys have one (dh and ds's) It is safe, as long as it was built right and you don't shoot anyone.

It is just another boys and their toys thing.

Oh man! Where do you live???? My boys will be right over to watch you fire it off!!!! My oldest bought that book with his own money and he's DYING to make that. But, we live in an area where it would be impossible to shoot it off. I'm hoping my dad will volunteer to help him make it as they live on a lot of land.

We made that same one. It is so much fun! We live in the country and have lots of space. The trees are great targets. It's fun to see how far one can be launched. Only drawback I've found is that my potatoes disappear!

Yes, we made the same one from the book. What fun! We did it at a school track, so we had lots of room.
