Hake Grammar question

I am considering Hakes Grammar for sixth grade. I looked at the samples on line and have a question. Does the student write his answers in the book (like a worktext) or on another sheet of paper? It didn't appear to be enough room on the sample pages to write the answers.

You can write in the book or on your paper. We chose to write on notebook paper after lesson 4 because we needed more space on a few lessons.

He always seems to have enough room except sometimes for the diagramming.
