Are the 1998 and 1984 editions similar, or do you prefer one over the other?

edition has not changed since 1994.

The earlier edition had a chapter on BASICS (old Fortran computer program). The newer book substituted Statistics for that chapter. Also some of the chapters are not in the same order.
