For a dyslexic child have you had more success with Sequencial Spelling or Megawords? Growing with Grammar or Junior Analytical Grammar? Abecedarian or a more formal program like Wilson or Barton? If ds had trouble reading what grade did you officially start grammar and spelling? Are there any supplmentary materials that work well with the ABCD program?

Suzy, not all kids with dyslexia are alike. Both spelling programs and all the reading programs you named are good with a large number of kids with dyslexia. I'm not famliar with the grammar programs.
I did spelling from the beginning with my kids with dyslexia, matching it up with their reading as much as possible. I did oral grammar with the ds with the most problems, and then let off for this year. We'll go back to formal grammar again next year (6th grade)

I can't tell you about GWG, but I can give you some insight into JAG that might help you decide between the two for your child. JAG covers parts of speech and diagraming. That's it. It starts with the simplest of sentences and builds to compound sentences. It doesn't cover clauses, s-v agreements, usage, or punctuation. What is learned in one section is used in every following lesson, so children with memory problems have constant review. Writing is limited to writing abbreviations above the words and diagramming (and maybe a answering a few question). It's very detail orienteed, yet my ds who struggles with details did very well with it.
disclaimer: my ds did have good spoken grammar and he had had previous grammar instruction.
SS spelling is simple for the parent, pick it up and go. Once the perfectionist students relax, it's non-stress. The student grades and corrects his own paper. The student also recieves instant feedback on each word he spelling. Every day is a "test", but there is no studying. There is no rules to learn, no games, no fluff. Every day the child writes done a list of 20-25 words. It could become boring due to the lack of variety.
