View Full Version : LLATL for dd11...is this enough for grammar?

A bit of a background. Dd11 is "technically" in 7th grade next year as she started school when she was 4 (bday in late Nov.). I've decided as we don't have to report actual grade levels to keep her in 6th one more year and give her that "extra" year. She did R&S 5 grammar this year and liked it but it was time consuming. She did fairly well although I don't know that the diagramming really "stuck". She has a full load next year and I'm finding that I need to streamline a bit. Would it be okay to just use LLATL for her grammar (it does cover diagramming in the book she'll be using)? I don't want her to fall behind, but we could jump back into R&S the next year or use another upper level grammar program for 7th. Does that sound okay? She will be writing in other areas of study so we won't need the writing assignments in R&S.

I think its fine. I have have been spring cleaning around my house and found my sons old llatl 6th grade brown book. I decided to use it w/ Ry last week and its been great. We will use her analytical grammar next yr. It only takes 10 weeks so I Thought this would be fine for now and I will save AG for later this fall. I also have the green teachers book, I might just use that later as well. The green bk covers 7 & 8 grade skills. HTH..... A little :)

Starting in 7th grade or the Green book, I don't supplement LLATL with grammar because there is quite a bit in there. I do keep an eye out for mistakes and download drills in that area from KISS grammar online. I think the diagramming makes more sense as they get older.

Thanks to you both. I just needed confirmation that it was A-OK to just use LLATL. I've been trying to streamline and LLATL has been a time-saver. She does have quite a background in grammar from using R&S and I was going to use R&S6 next year, but this will be so much nicer. A breath of fresh air for her. Thanks!

FWIW, my 6th grader is using ILL right now, but I'm planning on her using Green LLATL next and not supplementing grammar. I think it's fine.
