We are using MOH1 this year. My kids just aren't liking it at all, but what is new? They hate everything about school this year. Anyway, what am I doing wrong? I follow Hobar's guides as to how to do each lesson, etc. We do the fun activities and I even try to add more fun act. from ideas in Diana Waring's History curriculum. We listen to DW's audios, watch videos on certain topics, do the maps, test/quizzes and used to do the memory cards until I realized it was rather redundant b/c I usually make the dc do a written narration on each lesson. So, how do YOU do MOH?

You don't mention how old your dc are but it sounds like a general attitude/heart issue more than curricula choice.

We've completed both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and are anxiously awaiting Vol. 3 soon. We did pretty much what you mentioned sans DW and did oral narration since my ds was 1st and 2nd grade at the time. We both loved MOH and my son still uses his timelines as references.

How old are your children?

We are using MOH2 with SOTW2, and they love it. We also notebook and look things up on the computer.

Wow, looking back at my post today it sounds so judgmental. I did not intend it to be that way at all. We went through a period last year where we had to minimize academics and really concentrate on attitude/heart issues. Obedience, gratefulness, respect, and diligence were some of the issues we had to address. So, again, I didn't mean to sound like I was judging you or your children. It's just that in my experience, sometimes curricula is not the issue it's just the symptom.

Blessings,

Denise

Denise, no apology necessary! I didn't take it as judgement at all. It did hit home but in a way I guess I needed. It is tied to heart/obedience issues to an extent. My kids and I are having issues lately w/ respect/obedience, etc. when it comes to schoolwork. They hate every aspect of school. I'm just trying to do my part in figuring out how I can possible make it more "fun". Not every aspect of school is fun for every child, but i was just curious if I was doing something wrong in my presentation, etc. THey shouldn't hate ALL their schoolwork. Anyway, no apology...I appreciate your candor.

Guess my question would be what history have they liked? What about it did they like? Can you incorporate that into MOH?
