If you have read this book will you please share your dc's age(s) if it was a read aloud or an independent read for dc. I am looking for both pros and cons re: this title.
Amazon shows for the most part good reviews. I am curious to know if this is a title that is more appreciated when read independently.

My 11yo dd read it independently and loved it. She really liked how the artwork was used to tell the story.
It must be good, because she's reading it again for the 4th time!

We enjoyed the book and found it very pleasant to read. The artwork is it's highlight. I think it could help give a weak reader confidence that they have read such a thick book.

I read it. I think it's fantastic. It orphans the kid in the first part of the book, as all modern books do. (I find that annoying.) But the second part of the book is fantastic. The pictures are awesome. My son is now reading it.
