So, how do I figure out "degrees" on a compass?

I appreciated the wonderful replies to my hiking party thread but I have to admit to not having been a boy scout (or a girl scout)! :gnorsi::gnorsi: How do I find the "degrees" on a compass? I know how to find out North, South, East, West but that's about it!

North = 0
East = 90
South = 180
West = 270
