We have the same issue with trail mix, it's the raisins that get left behind here.

I would break your rule, too. I keep thinking I should just make my own trail mix with just peanuts and MnM's. Maybe we could call it path mix instead of trail mix.

We have a "no cherrypicking" rule here as well. DS hates all dried fruit and certain kinds of nuts. When we have premade trail mix, I make them take their portion and then they cherrypick and have to bribe someone to take their leftovers;)

Now, we let the kids make their own trail mix. I buy the ingredients separate and they make it up with what they like.

That's what I do, right out of the box. No one has noticed that the boxes are short on charms. You have to do it from the beginning to get away with it, though.
