I got my horse's hooves filed, he cut off a chunk of her loose skin from the lower right leg wound. (She spooked herself right into barbed wire Saturday night.) He gave her a tetnus/encephalitis shot. I have butte pills for her swollen left "knee." He even gave me some eye ointment because she's had an off and on leaky eye for a while.

AND HE GAVE MY DOG A 3 YEAR RABIES VACCINE.

He said the horse looks great - contrary to rude "She's too skinny" comments.
I thought she looked fine - she's old. Who wants to carry around the extra weight on 19 year old horse joints? It was good to hear that from him. Because my neighbor and I thought the same thing - but we're clueless to the world of horses.

I felt guilty paying so little. But I'm kinda broke and only working part time.
I am so glad he is my horse's vet.

I told him I really had no business owning a horse - but I fell in love with her when she was someone else's responsibility. And when she got sold I had to have her back. He said Missy was lucky to have us.

Thank you everyone on this new scarry board for helping me out with the Saturday trauma of my horse.

80 bucks! Wow! What a great vet. We are lucky that way too. My aunt and I compare our vet bills for our dogs all the time. She wants to move here just for the vet, hers are really expensive. Glad your "baby" is going to be ok. Speaking of baby-how are you feeling?

WOW--that is a great deal for all of that with the barn call. I will likely pay $100 for a vet check for my new horse and that is with me trailering him in.

Did you ask about banamine to have on hand? That is great for colic until the vet can get there.

Unicorn - I am good. A little nauseous in a.m. but I can eat all afternoon and into late evening.
Ottakee - I forgot about the banamine but I will get some in 3 months when he comes back to trim her.

I'm glad your horsey is well, and I'm glad she's with you. :)

I would call the vet and ask if you could pick up some banamine. It is VERY handy to have on hand and spring is a BIG time for colic. Having it on hand has saved us a few vet calls---or it will help unti the vet can get to you.
