It was actually much better than I expected! I really enjoyed it, though I had been afraid the cinematic style would just give me a headache.
I say watch it!

I watched it just so I could see all the men wearing nothing much but short shorts. :D

Blood and special effects usually disqualify a movie for me, but this one was great. There are at least 10,000 abs in that movie. The one-liners make a surprisingly good dialogue. It is one of the few movies that my dh and I both enjoyed. Maybe it was all those abs. Oh yeah and the quasi-historical plot.

I wasn't as blown away by it as I expected to be, but it didn't annoy me as much as Troy. It's no Gladiator, but then nothing is...except maybe Braveheart. (OK, OK, I know. Testosterone. Sorry.)

Just watching Gerard Butler as a hunky King Leonidas worked for me.

Ha. Shows what you know. I promise, there's plenty in Braveheart for us estrogen-laden types... ;)

I liked 300 quite a lot. It is very bloody.

Oh my gosh! My sisters and I rented Troy when I was back home one time. We're all history buffs. My dad kept yelling from the other room "what are you laughing about!?!?" and "I don't think that movie is supposed to be funny!??!"

And it did satisfy, for me, the same whatever-it-is that causes me to re-watch Gladiator again and again. Really, it was a wild, fun ride. The dialogue is better than I thought it would be, and I thought the characters were great.
Although I did look at DH at one point and said, "OK, so you know I would DIE in Sparta, right? I'd make a lousy, lousy Spartan wife." He chuckled and said, "Yeah, I'm pretty sure their little girls could kick my a%%."

"300" is so...last year for us! We're already looking ahead to Year 2 (Fall of Rome and everything else up to 1800). I've already ordered "Barbarians" and "Barbarians II" -- those will be our upcoming blood-and-guts shows.

I loved it too.....but yeah, that 10 yo could take out my family in one fell swoop!
One of the reviews of it warned men that they may spontaneously sprout ovaries watching this movie. It was well worth the time for all sorts of reasons!
