This is a great way to get the word out that co-sleeping isn't a neglectful thing. I have always slept with my babies, I've never felt comfortable having them in a bed in another room. I feel they are the safest when they are right there beside me. After having my fourth baby I was having some back problems and tried putting my baby in the pack and play by our bed but that was still too far away for me. She was only in it for a half hour before I had to have her next to me. I think it's a wonderful bonding experience for both mother and baby and something that the government should have no say over. So let your voice be heard!

cosleeping probably saved my son's life. I would do things a little differently if I had another kiddo, but I enjoyed most of our cosleeping experience.

Am I reading this right? The gov't is trying to legislate co-sleeping now? Do I still live in America or did I wake up in some other country this morning? How in the world would the gov't legislate such a thing? Are they going to send police officers to our home for random, periodic, "checks" in the middle of the night? I mean, let's get real! I've always slept w/ my babies. We have a crib in the room, but it hardly ever gets used. I nurse my babies and it's just so much simpler to co-sleep. I sleep better, baby sleeps better and longer...win-win. I've never been fearful of rolling over on my baby or smothering him. I'm more fearful that dh will, but he says he is very aware of him being there. That being said, my neighbor's brother's wife recently had a baby. She was lying down on the sofa nursing her newborn and she fell asleep. She was rather large breasted and somehow the baby was smothered and died as she slept. It was so horrible. I honestly think there was more to the story than that, though, b/c of how my neigbor described the family situation. In any case, said neighbor found out we co-slept and begged me to stop. I told her that I've always co-slept and was always careful. Anyway, my midwife always recommended NEVER letting a newborn out of your sight for a few weeks. Too many things could go "wrong". Sleep apnea, infection (group B strepp) that can cause a newborn to just stop breathing. If they are with you..you can catch it right away.
