I'm sure this is dependent upon the weather, but let's just say it is a hot, sunny day with slight breeze. And I'm in the Midwest, so of course it's humid. How long should I allow for a laundry to dry outside? My dryer quit working and I have no money to replace and/or repair it right now. Should I do my laundry early in the morning so it will have all day to dry?

Can you tell I've never hung my clothes out to dry before? ;)

We do one of two things: 1. Put the laundry in at night and hang it first thing in the morning. Clothes were usually dry by 1 or 2 pm. or 2. Put laundry in first thing in the morning and then hang. Clothes are usually dry by 2 - or 3. When it's sunny and warm, clothes dry VERY fast. I usually waited until everything was dry to pull it all down at the same time. More efficient.

Enjoy the smell of line-dried clothes!

I put it in first thing in the morning and hand it as soon as it is done washing. When the clothes sit in the washer over night they tend to have more wrinkles. I just leave the laundry basket by the clothesline. In the afternoon when everything is dry, I fold it into the basket as I take it off the line.

More tips: hang anything that you dont want to fade inside out. Hang knit shirts that you don't want to stretch folded halfway over the line instead of by the bottom edge. Washclothes are easier to fold if you hang them halfway over the line instead of by one corner.

I do the wash when I manage to do the wash, and hang it as soon as possible after it's done. Sometimes this looks like an organized thing: wash at night, hang early in the morning. But, more often, it looks like this: wash at noon when I'm taking a lunch break, hang at 1:00, bring in at 6:00. OR---wash at 4:00, hang at 6:00 leave out overnight and get it in the next day. OR---wash at 8:00 am, hang at 12:00 when I remember that I have wash to hang, miss bringing it in before a rain storm hits, so it gets soaking wet and I have to leave it there another day. BTW, rain is a great wrinkle remover!

The point is, there is no formula that *must be*, you simply do what works. In the summer, your clothes may be dry in a matter of a few hours. In fall or spring, it may take 6-7. In winter, it may take all your sun time to get stuff dry. You've got the best and shortest drying season ahead of you. Enjoy!! :D
